St. Clair -- AR & MO
I am NOT related to the St. Clair family; however, my gr-gr-grandfather's first wife was Austa Jane ST. CLAIR.He married her in September 1864 and she died in November 1864.Official government affidavits taken during the late 1910s & early 1920s reveal that Austa was allegedly from Berryville, AR, when she and gr-gr-grandfather, Frank Butler, met.A man gave testimony that he remembered that Austa & Frank married in Christian Co., MO (where Frank lived), and that she supposedly died there.A witness also testified in the goverment affidavits that Austa Jane St. Clair had a brother named Sam, and that one of her sisters was married to J.C. WALLACE.The witness remembered that, during the Civil War, the St. Clair family came to Missouri "from Searcy County [Arkansas?] as refugees," and later returned to that County.Like I said I'm not a St. Clair and not related to any, but I hope that this might give someone a clue with regard to your own research. If you ever find a child named Austa Jane St. Clair, probably born late 1840s, please let me know.I'd like to have her parents' names, just for my records.
