My daughter and I are the only Stavenhagens' in Australia that I know of. My father Edward Cyril (now deceased) was born in 1898. His father, so the story goes was born in Plymouth, England about 1860??? His name was Julius and he emigrated to Australia as a young man. He was involved in the wool trade working for some of the largest wool broking firms of the day. He travelled extensively throughout the state New South Wales and became a renowned wool expert and wrote articles for the London Times and the Sydney Morning Herald.
On one of his visits to Germany he married a young woman (about half his age) named Louise Rang who came from Fulda. Her father was the Ober Burghermeister (not sure of the spelling of that one) and old Julius spirited her away to Australia. What a shock that must have been. He had two children, my Father Cyril Edward, and my Aunt Beatrice. She never married but did adopt a female child named Pauline whose whereabouts I don't know. Aunt Beatrice has also passed away. She did know about the origins of our branch of the family but by the time I got to know her she was quite senile and I could never make sense of her stories.
I would greatly appreciate any further information on the family. Thanks everyone in anticipation.
This is about all I know of my grandfather or the rest of the family for that matter
