Unfortunately I don't have any further information on John or Robert. The only reference that I have seen is in a transcript of my great grandmothers obituary. Eleanor Stavely Paris. She had one daughter, my grandmother Lenora Elizabeth Paris Boerner. Eleanor's surviving family listed three brothers' John Stavely of Alamosa, California, Robert Stavely of Long Beach, CA and Josiiah Stavely of Perry (Iowa?). This was from a newspaper "Clinton county Iowa on 29 May 1924. Before seeing this article, I was only aware of Eleanor Stavely's sisters. I didn't know she had any brothers. Sorry I cannot furnish more info. What I can tell you is that this line of Stavelys were from Skirlaugh,England. Eleanor's parents were Robert Stavely, Sr and Charlotte Mair and they are buried in Springdale Cemetary, Cliniton, Iowa. Much of the back ground information on them was kindly furnished to me by Peter Stavely, who is researching all lines of the Stavelys and also Cris Kirwin. They both have a lot of information documenting the lineage back to the 1700's.
It's sounds like a strong possiblity that if your grandparents were from one of those locations in California there may be a connection.
