PETER STAVELEY 9/09/06
Dear Peter:
Thanks so much for the information.I still have to figure out exactly where my ancester, Susannah, fits in.I have a UK 1851 Census showing the Hill family with Susannah's birthplace as Skirlaugh, Yorkshire but that is the only link I have for thatplace name. However, the family had lived in Roos, Yorkshire for some time as all their children are listed as being born there.
However, the family first went to Rockford, IL and then when their daughter, Mary Jane, married Jerome Gray (circa 1854) they all moved to Clinton County, IA.Since Jerome grew up in Michigan, I always wondered why he ended up in Clinton County. It would make sense that if his mother-in-law's relatives were already there, that might have been the reason.Susannah and John Hill are also buried in the Lost Nation Cemetery with many of the Staveley family.
Again, thanks
Barbara
