THIS VILLAGE SMITH MIGHTY VERSATILE MAN
Monticello, Wis.- A mighty man, in the village is 41 year old CHRIST STAUFFER. Not only has he large and sinewy hands, but broad shoulders upon which some 650 villagers are prone to place many responsibilities.
Right now STAUFFER is mayor, president of the school board, fire chief, commander of the Monticello American Legion post, superintendebt of a Sunday School.
Aside from that, Staffer does odd jobs. For instance, his pastor recently was unable to appear before his congregation one Sunday morning and asked Stauffer to substitute...he sat down and selected a text from the Bible and on Sunday morning delivered a cracking good sermon.
Stauffer has been mayor two years, pres. of school board 8 years and wearer of the white helmet in the fire dept. for a decade.
His blacksmith shop is a community gathering place. But when his customers can't come to him, he packs up his traveling smithy and goes to them.
