The "Ray STAUB" in Akron was Ray E. STRAUB (Jr.), son of an unmarried Ray E. STRAUB (Sr.) & Rose ARMSTRONG. These German STRAUBs are descendants of Johann Pieter STRAUB, 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia. I wouldn't expect him to be related to your STAUBs.

There were STRAUBs living in ethnic German enclaves in Hungary, who had emigrated first from Germany to Hungary, then from Hungary to America. However, I've never seen surname STRAUB convert to STAUB. The best clue to their ethnicity would be the language the immigrants spoke, which should be given in their census records.
