Hi Scotty

Yes, that's the most likely explanation. F The Frederick Starnes born c 1700 is almost certainly "Uncle Frederick's" father. However, many lineages that are available on the net show Frederick born c1700 as the one killed by Indians.
The problem comes in proving this point. The last confirmed record that I have for Frederick Sr. is his wounding c1755 in the French and Indian. I believe this family and the related Carlocks then removed to the Carolina's, along with many others, to escape the conflict. There are militia records for family members serving together in the Cherokee Expedition of 1759. Following the end of the F&I it seems like some members of these families came back to Virginia to reclaim the property they left. Frederick Starnes was one of them. I thnk it's "Jr." and in all probability his father Frederick Sr. had died prior to this in the Carolinas, or didn't make the trip back. In any case the property is sold a few years later, and we then see Frederick Starnes and Hanchrist Carlock and Conrad Carlock, appearing near Gladesprings on the Middle Fork of the Holston. It is, I think, this Frederick Starnes who is later killed by Indians.

While I think that's what's going on, finding proof for that is another matter. In particular, while I think these families are showing up in the Carolinas I don't at this time know exactly where they settled. There are some that think they moved to Rockbridge County area in VA, instead, but their evidence for this seems weak. What I'm really looking for at this point is evidence of where they were living say between 1755 and 1767.

The other question that comes up is which Frederick Starnes was Mary Goldman married to. Some sources say that she was the wife of Frederick Sr., but I have not been able to find good evidence to support this. She could have been the wife of Frederick Jr, and his will does identify his wife as "Mary"---but that does not necessarily mean "Mary Goldman".

So, if you have data that speaks to these and related questions, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks
