Emaline's second husband was Miles T. (Turner) Newton. I have the 1850 Copiah Co. Census roll. Emaline's farm (valued at $900) was household #711-711. Her mother-in-law's farm (valued at $400) was household #710-710. Emaline's brother-in-law's farm (valued at $1,000) was household #709-709. Emaline's sister-in-law, Mary A. C. Smith's farm (valued at $1,200) was household #713-713.
I believe that her parents were deceased by 1850, for Emaline (b. ca. 1826-1827 in NC or GA) had living in her 1850 household the following persons, who I think are her siblings: William D. Pierce (b. 1830 in GA), Thaddeus W. Pierce (b. Aug 1837 in MS), and Ann Pierce (b. 1843 in MS).
According to a taped interview in 1974 with Emaline's great grandson, Robert Newton: "Grandma Newton was Emaline Pierce and her mother and father came from NC. Her mother's name was Martha Watson and her father's name was John Pierce---they moved from NC to Claiborne Co., MS."
