Sorry, I cannot answer your question, but I find this very interesting because Phineas STARK (of Moses, Wm., Wm., Aaron) married Tryphena FREEMAN (of Silvanus, Edmund 5,4,3,2,1). The immigrant Edmund FREEMAN of Sandwich, MA, had m. 1. Bennett HODSOLL. Bennett was about 31 in 1629, per inquiry at E. Grinsted, Sussex, England. She died at Gravel-cum-Chesfield and was buried 12 Apr. 1630, Pulborough, Sussex. Bennett was daughter of John HODSOLL of Cowfold, Sussex, whose will was pr. 16 Nov. 1617, stating that he was son of John and that he had a son John. Widow was Faith, but she was probably a second wife, since she had a daughter Faith BACON. Bennett's sister Christian, who was about 27 in 1624, married William FREEMAN, son of Edmund FREEMAN & Alice COLES, and brother of the Edmund who went to Sandwich, MA. In Burke's Landed Gentry, the line begins with John HODESHOLE of Stanstead, Kent, who paid subsidy in 1373 and was party to a fine in 1384/5. Next was John HODSOLE, whose will was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 20 Mar. 1423/4. Next were all spelled HODSOLL. Ninth in line was John HODSOLL of Cowfold, tenant of the manor of Stanstead in 1584, will proved 16 Nov. 1617. He had several daughters. He named nephew John, son of late brother Robert HODSOLL, & left "Bakers" to his own son, John HODSOLL, who m. Elizabeth, daughter of John GRATWICK of Jervis/Jeryes, Cowfold. The son John HODSOLL died 12 Nov. 1628 at Shermanbury, Sussex, England. In 1633, Edmund FREEMAN brought suit in chancery on behalf of the rights of his children against William HODSOLL, John GRATWICK, et al, relatives of his deceased wife. I've also seen the name spelled HATSULD. I just Googled the name "Joseph HODSOLL" and found that there was a Joseph HODSOLL of Joy St., Barnstaple, 33 in 1851, whose family, including a son Joseph, were passengers of the John, which sank in 1855. Some of the passengers were labeled w = witnessess, s = saved, & d = drowned. However, the HODSOLL family wasn't labeled. Notify Administrator about this message?
