John & Hezekiah Stark b. abt.1818-18

I have located 2 of my ancestors,wives & children in the 1850 Ma. census & it states they were b. in Vt.yet upon writing the Vt. Vital Statistics they inform me that they have no record of them. Any suggestions from anyone????? I would appreciate any help that you may give. Thanks!
