I have just been working on the Storring families of Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada and realized that they connect directly to the Stahring/Staring families out of New York State. Everything is a little muddy for me- I THINK that George Storring born about 1763 who married Anna Timmerman was the son of a Jacob and Catherine Staring- does anyone know if that is correct? Seems to be some different opinions on that. What about siblings of same George- would like to know who they were- did he have a sister who married a KLOCK? or was she from a different line, maybe from Adam?
This particular line of STORRING's seem to have settled in and around Richmond in L & A County, Ontario.
I have yet another line of Storring's in Ontario that I have not connected to the Richmond bunch- that is Adam Joseph Storring 1746-1822 and his wife Catherine McGinnis (born 1748, the d/of Timothy McGinnis and Sarah KAST.) I was reading about Sarah Kast and her husband last night and WOW- what great history here.
Adam and Catherine Storring were married 1770, I have the names of eight children but have not followed up on what happened to them or who they married. Was this Adam Storring an uncle to the George Storring who settled at Richmond? i.e.) were Jacob Storring (possible father of 1763 George) and Adam Storring brothers? Same Jacob must have been born in 1730's or 1740's then?
I also get an impression there are several people who have spent years working on these Staring families and I would appreciate some experienced help here as I piece things together.
Are there any Storring/Kast descendents around? I am intrigued by the KAST name- one of the earliest matriarchs in this line had surname FECK. In my files I have KECK families who were definitely linked by marriages to other Mohawk Valley families (Feader/Servos, etc.) and have pondered for eight years the possibility that my early KEECH families were same as the KECK families. Now with discovery of KAST surname, the wheels are turning again.
There is mention of an early Johann Jurg Kast who should be in Montgomery County, NYS in late 1700's- am I correct in thinking this?
My earliest Keech ancestor was a George who was recorded as Jorg or Jurg Keech in old records. He (or his son) served with the Tryon militia as did ancestor 1763 James Keech. Much more work to be done here in my research. The Kast's seem to have moved then to Herkimer County at least by 1810, where I find a George and a Sopronius? in that county. Does anyone have them on the 1790 and 1800 census, if so, where?
I have another line of Keech's that were in Herkimer County very early, the farthest back I have got with that line is a James Keech or Keach born 1794 who was in Vermont when his first few children were born. I don't know the name of his father, have the names of four siblings. Their mother was born in Rhode Island. Before Vermont, they may have been in Rensselaer County. This James moved to Oneida County as did my own Keech ancestors. (Prior to that they were at Mohawk.)
Back to Storring/Staring families- there is a connection to the Garrison family in the Ontario lines as well, have not come up with anything conclusive yet. My Keech's are connected to the Garrison's through at least one early marriage.
A lot of this info is all new to me and I have a lot of reading to do, but will share my Storring file when I am done piecing it together. It starts with the George Storring/Staring born 1763 who married Anna Timmerman (also went by Zimmerna I see)- I have the names of eight children for them and would like someone to verify that these eight were indeed their children. My information is mainly on son George born about 1800 who married Eliza YORK and his descendents.
Another son, Lawrence Storring born about 1797 died Sept. 20, 1869 and on his death reg. was recorded that he was born at Mohawk Bay in NYS- where is that? The next child in this family was George Storring born or baptized Sept. 3 1800 in Ontario, so the family must have trekked directly from Mohawk Bay to Canada between 1797 and 1800.
In book "The Loyalist In Ontario" by William D. Reid it was recorded that George Storing was at Williamsburg, married a Hannah Timberlake daughter of Henry (but her surname was Timmerman or Zimmerman), names of SEVEN children only are recorded.
