Hi John,
Here is a section of my Granny's biography manuscripts that details our family's branch of Starbards. My Grandmother Lucinda Donna Boyd was the daughter of Earl Melvin Starbard of Lowell, Michigan, near Clarksville and Grand Rapids. Earl Melvin Starbard, Jan. 6, 1890 - June 1, 1967
The family apparently came from Wales in the year 1653 and settled near Gloucester Massachusetts. The year 1700 John Starbird received a grant of land from the English government in Maine which at that time belonged to Massachusetts. For more than 2 years they looked for the piece of land. When they found it, it was claimed by early French settlers which caused much strife.

Edward Starbird was born in England in 1604. Came to America from Derbyshire England about 1640. Settled in Dover. N.H. He was granted 40 acres of land at Cacheco (Cocheco?) He was an elder in the church until he became a Baptist about 1659. He located at Cambridge Massachusetts about 1660. His wife Katherine Reynolds was born in Wales. They had 6 children. He died June 12, 1690. He died a Quaker.

Jethro Starbird, son of Edward Starbird was born in England about 1638. He went to Cambridge with his Father and killed soon afterward. Thomas Starbird son of Jethro was born about 1660. He married in Dover N.H. Abigail Damm, daughter of John Damm, Jan. 4, 1687 or 1688. Their children were Jethro, Thomas, Agnes, Abigail, Elizabeth, John and Samuel. Their children were all born at Dover N.H.

Thomas Starbird II, born at Dover H.N. October 19, 1691 married Margaret Night May 14, 1713. Died Oct 28, 17 (7? or 9? can't read it). They had 14 children, the last 2 twin boys born 1738.

John Starbird also son of Thomas I was born March 16 17?? (can't read it) Married Sarah Scammon (looks like) of Dover H.H. had 7 children, died at Brunswick Maine June 30, 1753.

Jethro Starbird son of Thomas II born June 29, 1718. Married Annah Berry, April 10, 1744. 8 Children. Died June 25, 1775.

II

John Starbird, son of Jethro and Anna Berry Starbird was born Oct. 3, 1767. Baptized May 29, 1768. Married Sally Tobey of New Gloucester, Main, March 26, 1796. She was born Sept 20, 1772, daughter of Richard and Jemima Haskell Tobey. Sally died Sept 18, (can't read it) John Starbird died Feb. 10, 1851. They had 12 children. Our great grandfather Levi H. born August 20, 1806 was the 6th child. These 12 children's names were Hannah, Sally, John, Jemima, Laura, Levi H., Richard T, Joseph, Martha M., Stephen, Dorothy, and Betsy.

Richard and Levi changed the spelling of their name to Starbard.
Levi H. Starbard, son of John of Paris Maine was born August 20, 1806. Married Martha Watson Coffin of Conway N.H. Martha was daughter of Aaron and Sally Watson Coffin. Aaron born July 1794 died March 16, 1875. Sally Coffin born Dec. 1798, died Feb. 1, 1879. Martha was born Dec. 18, 1819, died at Westboro Massachusetts., Feb. 24, 1904. Buried at Cherry Valley Cemetery Worscester, Massachusetts. Levi died at Marlboro, Massachusetts Feb 21, 1888, buried at Carroll Maine. They had 10 children.

Melvin Starbard, Son of Levi was born August 17, 1850. Married Jennie Cheetham of (Boston Twp ) Ionia County, Michigan (2 miles east of Lowell, Michigan), October 29, 1883. Jennie was the daughter of William and Helen Newton Cheetham, born October 29, 1863. Melvin was killed by a train near their home July 16, 1896. His body was buried in a wooden box under a tree in their yard for several years. Then before Grandma went to Montana, was moved to the Lowell Cemetery. Grandfather Melvin was on his way to the Baptist Church at Lowell to lead prayer meeting, walking along the tracks, apparently didn't hear the train. Uncle Clare and my father were in the orchard in an apple tree, saw their father on the tracks and saw the train, then saw their Mother run down the tracks. Many years ago an elderly man by the name of Will Buck told me about the accident too. My father showed us several times where his Father was struck and where first buried. (Note from A. Lyman: My Uncle, Don Boyd says because the family lived so close to the tracks Melvin was used to hearing the train and ignoring the sound of it.)

Melvin and Jennie had 6 children:
