Hello Daisy - my husband descends from Benjamin Stanton (Abt 1792-1848) and his second wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) McBride. Betsy raised Hannah's children upon her early death. He was married first to Hannah Penrose and the Quaker records bear this out. Our Benjamin (one of several in this timeframe) was the son of Benjamin Stanton (1756-1807) and second wife, Mary Moore (1762-1849). Benjamin Stanton (1756) was the son of Henry Stanton Jr.(1719-1777) and Hope Borden (1733-1787). Henry Stanton Jr. (1719) was the son of Henry Stanton (1688 of Rhode Island) and Mary Hull. The 1688 Henry Stanton also had a wife named Lydia Albertson and they also had a son named Benjamin Stanton (1746-1798). It was this Benjamin that married Abigail Macy (1753-1825) and produced a son, David Stanton (1774-1827) who married Lucy Latham Norman, the parents of the War Secretary, Edwin McMasters Stanton (1814-1869). There is kinship, but distant cousins at that.
Our Benjamin Stanton, while not as well known, was interesting as well. He was a close friend of Charles Osborn, Quaker abolitionist and newspaper editor and even named his son after him. He was well acquainted with Levi Coffin of the "underground railway". In fact, our Benjamin while lesser known was the editor of a couple of Anti-Slavery newspapers coming out of Newport, Indiana the years before his death. He, wife Betsy, and several other Quakers were disowned for a few years for their radical beliefs and heavy involvement in anti-slavery. This was before the Civil War.
Lastly, our Benjamin is the UNCLE of the Great Statesman, (another Benji) The Hon. Benjamin Stanton (1809-1872) of Steubenville, Ohio who was raised by Mary Moore (mother and grandmother respectively) after Elias and Martha (Wilson) Stanton died in 1811.
