1848 Nancy A. Stanphill of Guntersville, Marshall co., AL applied for Bounty Land Warrant on service of her deceased son, Cornelius, killed in Mexican War. She said father of Cornelius was James, and she was only living parent, Cornelius unmarried, no children. He enlisted 3 March 1847, age 19, b Bedford co, TN was 5'6", light hair, gray eyes, light complected. Died 2 June 1847 "in
hospital" Carrollton, LA. Affidavits on her behalf by William B. Stanfield & ClarindaWileman, witnessed by Louis Wyeth.
I am not a direct descendant of these lines, but am researching Stanfield/phill.
