As to the origin of the surname Stanko, it is simply a hypocoristic form of the Slavic name Stanislav or Stanislaw and means something like Stan. My grandfather de facto - not de iure ;) - was Stanko too, born probably at the beginning of the 20th century in Pcoline near Snina in the eastern Slovakia but I donīt have any other information about him. If you do, let me know please.
