Hello,
Where to start? I'm absolutely delighted to read about other Stanilands. Growing up in Canada I thought I was one of only a handful in the world! My grandfather was William Frederick Staniland. As you mention, he left England for Barrhead, Alberta, Canada to homestead in the early 1900's. I'm not entirely sure of the children's names but I believe they were Harold, George, Reginald, Ralph (or Henry), Albert and Connie. My dad was Ralph (or Henry!). He would never give his proper name as he was always called Buff so am not really sure what it was! There are many Staniland decendants still living in Alberta with some living in eastern Canada and the Maritimes. This is all very exciting; Do you know anything more about the William Frederick Staniland family?
