I am the 6th generation desendent from Rev. John Stanger.

John's son Jacob Stanger born April 17, 1810 (moved to Colorado County, Texas about 1855).

Jacob's son Oswald was born on August 4, 1840 probably in Wythe County, Virginia and came to Texas with Jacob in 1855. In about 1860 he moved to Van Zandt County in East Texas (75 miles East of Dallas). He bought land which is still in our family today. He died in 1921 and is burried in the Edom Cemetery. Oswald and his brother John (third John Stanger, Rev. John also had a son named John)served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War.

Oswald's son Joseph Abb was born in Van Zandt County on the above farm on October 9th, 1878 and died March 26, 1972, and is burried in the Edom Cemetery.

Abb's son Lavern Rudolph Stanger (my father) was born November 27, 1921, and died January 21, 1999 and is also burried in the Edom Cemetery. He served in the US Army in WW II on the Island of Okanowa.

I was born February 6, 1954, in Van Zandt County and now live in Tyler, Texas, where I have a land surveying company.

This is a very brief history and I have more information if needed. I also have a few names of people who know much more than I do.

Joey Stanger
