Stanfords Ireland>NYC 1880's to early 1900's
My Stanfords emigrated from Mohill, Leitrim in mid 1800's. Settled in New Haven, CT.
In early 1900's when one couple was married.. a Catholic priest, Joseph Vincent Stanford, came up from NYC to perform the ceremony when the bride's uncle, another Catholic priest, was sick and couldn't do it.
I'm trying to figure out the connection.. with this Stanford family and mine.
I did some cursory research and found the following:
************
Patrick Stanford b.c. 1829 in Ireland was married to a Bridget b. c. 1830 in Ireland. The family was in NYC by 1852 when oldest son was born.Patrick run/worked at? a bakery in 1860 and 1870.In 1880 Patrick worked as a janitor. Only Elizabeth and Joseph were still living home.
Children:
James E. Stanford b.c. 1852
Mary A. Stanford b.c. 1855
Charles Stanford b.c. 1857
Elizabeth Stanford b.c. 1860
Joseph Stanford b.c. 1865
James E. Stanford married Mary Bowen/Bohan?? Mary was born May 1854 in New Haven, CT.James worked as at the Custom house and as a tax collector. They were married c. 1875
In 1900, Mary's sister, Jennie Bowen b. Jan 1865, CT was living with James and Mary.In 1910, James and Mary lived in the Bronx. Jennie and brother, James P. Bowen b. 1868 in CT were living with them. In 1920 they lived in the Bronx. Brother in law, James Bowen (listed as "Bannon" in census) was widowed with two children (both born NY) were living with them. Jennie lived with with them also. In 1930, Jennie still lived with James and Mary Stanford.
children:
Joseph Vincent Stanford b. 3 May 1876
Isabella b. Dec 1879
Florence M. Dec 1881
Ethel b. Jun 1886
Ruth b. Nov 1893
In 1920 Ethel Stanford was married to Charles Wilson. They had children:
Ruth Wilson b. 1913
Constance Wilson b. 1920
In 1930 Ruth Stanford was married to Vincent O'Connell.
Father Joseph Vincent Stanford was a priest at the Church of the Incarnation at 1290 St. Nicholas Ave, NYC
On his draft card in 1918 he was described as tall, slender, with blue eyes and brown hair.
Is anyone connected to this family? I am especially interested to see if they came from Mohill, Leitrim?
Any info on the Bowen/Bohans? I have one possible family in New Haven that could be this family.
