I've tracked one branch of my family back to Watsel Standley,b. about 1854 shown on the 1880 census for Sand Lick, Buchanan "now Dickenson" County, VA. I've been unable to find him listed anywhere else. His daughter, Margaret Jane was my GGrandmother, and his name is shown on her marriage certificate.
Margaret Jane Standley first married Alfred Rowe (my GGrandfather) and after his death she married Alex Hatfield.
Besides his wife Mary Unknown and four children, Mary G. Mullins, relationship neice, age 1 year, is shown living with them on the census report.
I've run a search on Mary G. Mullinses, born in 1879, and found one Mary Geneva Mullins born in Virginia 18 Jun 1879, parents Eli Mullins and Winnie STANLEY. (no "D" in the surname.)It appears that Winnie Stanley and Watsel Standley may have been siblings, although no unaccounted for children that may be Watsel show on any listed trees.
Mary Geneva was Married 27 Dec 1894 in Dickenson County to David Lee (Cub)Cantrell.
