Oh boy, wouldn't that be amazing! The problem is I don't know anything about my grandmother's father. Were they divorced, or did he pass away? I rather think divorce because I find my grandmother, her mother and sister living with Albert and Sarah Standish in 1900 in Columbus. Minnie declares she is married but no sign of James any where. Divorce might explain the fact that the man was never mentioned, that seems to be common back then. My grandmother told my mother back in the 40's that she had been told that her father was of Irish and Spanish descent but that could be made up. My grandmother was prone to whoppers sometimes according to my mother. My grandmother and my father had dark coloring, olive skin, very dark brown eyes and dark brown, almost black hair. I have a very few photos of Minnie Standish and one that is possibly Carrie or the mother, Sarah, and they appear more fair. I also have a photo of a man I suspect is Albert Standish but haven't been able to determine that yet (there is an eerie resemblance to my brother). I understand there is a Columbus history in the library there that contains a photo of Albert but I have not yet been able to have anyone check that out. One would assume that James was older than Minnie but maybe not because her second marriage was to a younger man so I have had to guess at a date of birth to try to dredge anything out of Ancestry, with not a great deal of success. There is a marriage record in one of the books in Columbus for what might be James and Minnie but the book is very tight binding and the person who looked it up could barely discern the information - that was in 1892. If you see any hints that this might mesh with the Thompson family you have please let me know. Is there anyone named Louise in that family group? I have a very beat up tiny photo of Minnie which is dated 1892 and there is a younger woman (girl) in the photo with her. I finally was able to figure out the name written on the back is "Louise" and that is also my grandmother's middle name. So I don't know if Louise was a relative. I wondered if she could have been a Thompson because thus far she doesn't fit date-wise with any of the Standishes. Thanks so much, Roberta Notify Administrator about this message?
