I hope that most of you involved in this thread are still active on the forum. It looks as though we are descended from the same John Newton Standerfer. My gg-grandfather John Newton Standerfer was born in or near Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia. He enlisted in the Confederate forces in Virginia at age 19, after the War, he went back home to Jonesville, and shortly after married Caledonia Hall. In 1875, the family made rafts and floated the family down the Powell river to somewhere near Memphis, TN, traded the rafts for wagons and made their way to Texas. They settled in the McKinney area on Cagemy creek.

John made his way to Texas after hearing a call from the Lord to go preach to people in Texas. He indeed started many small churches in North Texas. He was known as a "circuit rider, or circuit preacher," he would ride every sunday to the various churches he started and would preach the gospel to each congregation. Later John moved his family into Oklahoma, where I was born.

I have been researching the Standerfer family for quite some time, but have only seen one picture of John Newton Standerfer. Does anyone have any pictures of John Newton or the family? If you have Sermons, would you be willing to make copies? it's been a while since I visited this thread, but I sure would like to reconnect.
Thanks very much,
Brian Standerfer
