Notes for JAMES STANALAND:
NC, James Stanaland, was born in 1760, when he was about three years old, his parents moved into Craven County. In 1779, he was drafted and served in the Militia. In 1780 he was paid 18 pounds, 12 shellings, sterling for 279 days of Militia duty. Certificate of Pension issued the 4th day of May 1836.

James Stanaland b. N.C.
He enlisted, while residing in Craven County, during 1779 and served under Capts. Dunnard, David Murrell and Gen. Marion. He was in the battle of Black Ridge against the Tories and in the skirmish at White Bridge. He served two hundred seventy-nine days in the militia during 1780. In April 1781, he was drafted under Capt. David Murrell. He was surprised at Bear Bluff by the Tories under Maj. Benjamine Lewis and was captured and paroled. He broke his parole on 20 August 1781 and joined Colonel Horry, Maj. Benson and Capt. Henry Lenud. He was in the battles of Monck's Corner and Wambaw. A.A.7299; P499.
1824, James Stanaland was one of the appraisers of the Estate of Nancy Ann Pitman, deceased. John Pitman was Administrator of the estate. (Horry Co., SC Probate Court, Box 8-A, #11)

All Saints Parish...........unto whom this present writing will come, I Robert West of the State District & Parish aforesaid do send Greetings Know ye that the said Robert West for diverse good cause and ...considerations hereunto .....have given and granted ...by these presents do give grant and confirm unto Cornelius West of the State District and parish aforesaid...my estate both Real and Personal consisting of the Plantation whereon I now live lying on the Sea Shore in All Saint Parish, one Bay Horse, Cattle, Hogs, plantation tools, Household and Kitchen furniture and all other of my substance whatsoever in these.......custody, possession or keeping soever the same....or may be found To Have and to hold all and singular the goods and Chattels before mentioned unto the Said Cornelius West his heirs or assigns from henceforth to him and his own .......thereof and therewith, to do, order and dispose of any of the aforesaid tools and chattels without any manner of ? trouble or denial of me the said Robert West my heirs, or any other person or persons whatever which premises aforesaid I the said Robert West do put the said Cornelius West in full and peaceable possession by virtue hereof, In witness whereof I the said Robert West have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty second day of February one thousand eight hundred and sixteen and in the Fortieth year of the Independence of the United States of America -signed sealed and acknowledged in the presence of
