I believe your Elisha is probably the older brother to my gggrandmother Deborah Martha (Patsy) Stamps of /Georgia/ Lawrence Co. Miss. who married to Richard Cole. They were children of William Stamps b 1772 in either Henry or Pittsylvania Co. Va. William was brother to John, Moses, Thomas and are listed in the 1797 Census of Green Co. Ga. William died in fall of 1854 and will was proved on Nov. 28 in Orphan's Court, Lawrence Co. Miss. Anthony Stamps was Extr. Children of William and Frankey(the one I am looking for) were : Samuel- b October 18, 1795 in Georgia, Elisha S. b August 4, 1798 in Georgia, Laureny b October 11,1800 in Georgia, Anthony b 1804 in Georgia, Deborah Martha b 1810 in Georgia, there are other listed as children but considering the year in which they were born, I am inclined to think they may have been related some other way. There was Thomas J. b 1823, William E. b 1828, Mississippi, John S., and Henry. Birthdates are not listed for the last two.
William and Frankey were members of Silver Creek Baptist Church, said to be the first Baptist Church in Mississippi, formerly named Salem Baptist and was located on Cole's Creek near Natchez.
The cousin who gathered information on our direct family stated that there were rumours that Frankey was Indian, but I have never found documentation to prove this. I know the Cherokee Indians intermarried with a good many families in that part of Georgia, and some of the Cole Family of So. Carolina who died in Georgia are listed as Native American and part of the Cherokee Nation. Richard Cole and Patsy Stamps were parents of James Monroe Cole who married Ailsey West and lived in Caldwell/Winn Parish, Louisiana. I would love to hear from anyone who may know anything about Frankey, (Frances). Thanks, and hope this helps you some Lucy Vickers Grisham
