Beverly,

A Stamper family lived next to my Wilburn ancestors in Carter Co KY (1840) census. I found this years ago, on microfilm. And was too inexperienced to know that during this era this kind of proximity usually meant a kinship of sorts. Later I found several men named Wilburn Stamper. There;s such a person living in TN today. At any event, during the last 20 years I've learned to track my Wilburn ancestors by their nearest neighbors. Stamper and Wilburn families can be found in Middlesex Co VA.

All of this is to say, that I'm sure you're on the right track. I also found a kinship between the Pelfrey and Blanton families of KY and NC. NO surprise to find a Wilburn Blanton.

The Stamper families settled into colonial VA during the 1600's. The majority of families in KY by c 1800 were descendants of early colonial VA families.

Just some tidbits that I thought you might find of interest. Stamper/Blevins/Osborne/Blevins/Hammonds were allied families in Wilkes and Ashe Co NC before moving on into TN or KY or other parts of SW VA.

Cheers,

Vikky Wilburn Anders in San Diego
