Hi Jan - I am searching for the identity of a Susannah STAMPER who was born in Ashe Co.,NC in 1796. She started living with John Henry Birchfield and Martha Billups Birchfield in Tazewell, Va then came with them to Cabell and Mason Counties WVa. She lived with them many years until Martha died then in 1880 she was living with their daughter Minerva Marrs in Mason County. John Henry Birchfield reportedly was the son of Jeremiah Birchfield and Rebecca Short. It looks as if he may have been Susannah Stampers son instead, perhaps illegimate. She said she was a widow in the 1880 census. Have you a clue? Could your Susan have been the same person? The birthdates are close. Thank you.
