Catherine "Kate" Stambaugh 1858-1940 & Samuel Charles McKee 1851-1926
I am looking for help filling in this family and if you can help, please send me an e-mail to [email protected].
This is what the late Ray Grove found during his research:
Samuel Charles McKee, a native son of Missouri, was born on a pioneer farm near Austin in Cass County, Missouri on 14 Oct 1851. He was the son of James McKee and Louisa Jane Best. His father was born in TN and accompanied his brother John to Cass Co, where they settled near Austin before 1845. James died when Samuel Charles was less than a year old. His mother re-married to John R. Tate 24 Oct 1854. When Order #11 was issued, the family relocated in Harrisonville, Cass County, Missouri where they resided until the fall of 1864, then they went to Arrowsmith, McLean County, Illinois and Mr. and Mrs. Tate spent the remainder of their days there. Samuel Charles lived there until he was 23 years old and then returned to Austin in 1873 and took charge of the old home place of his father in Cass County.
In 1883 Samuel Charles bought a farm eight miles south west of Adrian, Bates County, Missouri. He was engaged in general farming and stock raising and raised short horn cattle and Poland china hogs. In 1921 the family moved to Merwin, Bates County, Missouri. He was a Democrat, and filled the offices of Tax Collector and Constable, and was a member of the Farmers Alliance and Farmers Union. Samuel Charles died 19 June 1926 in Merwin, Bates Co and his wife Catherine died 5 July 1940 in Amsterdam, Bates Co MO.
