So depending on the year you have to know which county to look for the records. The records are not forwarded to the new county. Thety start fresh with the year of formation.

Wiliam Stalcup's land deed shows he did NOT serve in the Continental line. He appears to have served as a guard for the NC Commissioners in other records, which I have not seen but have the numbers.

for William Robb a corporal in the line of the state
Three Hundred and fifty seven Acres of Land within the Limits of the Lands reserved by Law for the Officers & Soldiers of the Continential Line in this State.
Observing the directions of the Act of Assembly in such ease made and provided for running out Lands. For just and fair plans thereof with a certificate to each annexed You are to Transmitt to my Office within the Time limited by Law.
Given under my Hand at Hillsbro the 23 day of October Anno Dom 1783 J Glasgon

Thence south Crost a branch at one hundred and twelve poles in all two hundred and twenty poles to an Ash and Elm in Said Donohos line East two hundred and sixty poles to a stake North two hundred and twenty poles to said Coolins line West with said line to the Beginning
