Cousins: About two months ago, I decided to sign up for a genetic project. The intent of the project is to track the historic migration patterns of mankind over thousands of years by gathering Y-chromosome DNA from people all over the world. Y-Chromosome DNA is passed on from the father and it remains the same through thousands of generations over thousands of years. However, there have been mutations over time that allow us to identify specific family types (known as haplogroups) and their migration patterns. I received my results today. My line of Stalcups are members of haplogroup R1a. This R1a haplogroup is common in Scandinavia, but even moreso in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia. This would tend to back up the historic record of the Stalcup family origin in Sweden. What I'm hoping is that a few others in this great family of Stalcups/Stallcups/Stalkups/etc. have taken this or a similar genetic test and came up with the same result.
