John Sterk /"Ebenezer" Ga Salzberg Luthe

Read a story first posted in the "Harpers Magazine".Turn of the cent.. 1732 first colony of Lutherns from Salzberg to Ga. escape persicution. One of their first acts was to build churches and Orphanages. Whitfield modeled his Bethesda Orph after theirs.
Provincial Congress. John Sterk, John A Truetlen, Jacob Waldhaur, John Florel, Christopher Cramer sent from Georgia to support Bostonians in protest of Stamp act.

1832 Georgia, name changes.
Hopkin Howell "Parent" children changing name from Levat Duglas, Emily Duglas,
Solomon Jones to Levat Howell etc. Again with William S. Hudson,James Hudson as parents also
John Jones, Charles King , and Elijah Pridgett as parents:children James J. Sheffield and Sterling C. Waters becoming Sheffields.
Other "parents" Thomas Simmons
William Sellars Thomas F. Stribling
Archibald Rodes William Starling-these children had been Rowell

Then John Studestill with ch:
Jon Driggars, Dorah Ann Driggars.
all getting name changes to Studestill 1830-1850.

I realize some are remarraiges and Guardians. But in Some cases every ch. has a different name.
I also found the boys and girls boarding school in Ga post CW. I know these kids went to Tx, Ohio , NE etc on the trains and into Orphanages.

Question. A Mrs Pritchett helped found Orphanage after CW on Ohio. The Gould Foundation in Ny. I see that name mixed a bit with some corresponding Stainback names.
Is there a history of the family having a role in the orphan trains?
On my mothers maternal side (Eichelburg/Ward) the Eichelberg gram Im almost positive went to Ohio on an Orp. Train.
My Peter N. was a minister and I know Geo. T. was. And a James Rowe, some of the Grahams. Herbert Graham Rowe was my grgrandfather. And I cant get anywhere past his fathers name.He could have been Herbert Graham adopted by a Rowe. And.. I found William Henry Manning having his name changed to William Henry Hudson in1847 by William S. Hudson.
So Im considering the poss. I always assumed on the 1850 Brunswick census that the children listed were at Boarding school, but the Orpanage idea passed me up. Is this why - Pieces that dont fit, that dont make sense (to me anyway like Geo White Sr being from Ireland)
Why Ida Virginia Brown info and Herbert Rowe-both civil war kids, are so illusive. And are we really Stainbacks at all? Or do I just think too much.
Thanks for listening to my ramblings.Bev
