St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, May 31, 1928 Stagg is First Guest At The Hotel Baker One of the most famous men of the country had the honor of being the first guest of Hotel Baker. Amos Alonzo Stagg, the "grand old man" of the University of Chicago signed the register as guest No. 1 last Saturday. Mr. Stagg came to St. Charles to speak at the annual banquet of the Little Seven Conference at the Baker Memorial Community Center. He asked that accommodations be made so that he could remain here overnight, as he did not wish to return to Chicago after the banquet. When Mr. Baker heard that Mr. Staff was to be here overnight, he insisted that he stay at the hotel although the hotel will not be officially opened until Saturday. Mr. Stagg was enthusiastic about the Community Center, the Arcada Theater and Hotel Baker. -------- Posted as a courtesy.
