Peggie-
Mercy Hawkins was my gr.gr.grandmother.It has been many years since I researched her. While I do not have all of my research at my fingertips right now, what I have shows that she was born in April 1822, and I believe I found she was born in Wallingford, VT, a daughter of Esek Hawkins (b.Jun 4, 1796 Fitzwilliam, NH).Esek was the 9th of 20 children of Abraham Hawkins (b. Mar. 26, 1760 Providence, RI) who fought in the Battle of Bennington during the Revolution.
She married George A. Stackpole. They had 5 children while living in the vicinity of Saranac, NY.Their youngest son, George died Mar. 31, 1865 in the final days of the Civil War.I have copies of his war letters.
Mercy died July 24, 1903 in Hewittville.I have a photo of her.She was not a conventional beauty, but my grandmother, Edith Stackpole Nichols, spoke warmly of her.
I'm quite certain I found a great deal of info while researching in Northern New York, and perhaps I can find the answers in my notes if you have additional questions.
