I visited Jackson County, Tenn about 4 years ago.A elderly living member of the Stacy family there told us that Mote Stacy walked from Illinois, to Jackson county (Antioch township, east of Gainsboro about 4 miles), to take up the home place of the Stacy's (where his family was from). Apparently, he did not want to stay in Illinois. She also said that she thought that the Stacy Clan in Jackson was originally started by a 'George' Stacy. Now most of us that are researching the Stacy's of Jackson Tenn are 'pretty sure' that George was not one of the founders. So maybe, George was Mote's father.this is just a guess, of course. But may be a clue.Stacy's from Jackson county began appearing in Illinois in 1830, as best as we can figure.
There are 3 Stacy cemeteries there, and Mote is in the only one that I was unable to get a picture of (my camera ran out of batteries). But it is on the hill, south of the main Stacy cemetery.I believe it may be unmarked. But there are 3 or 4 graves there, in the woods. Most Stacy's there are aware of these cemeteries.
