Where to start

I'm looking for advice on researching my family history. From my father's birth certificate I have the names/dates of my grandfather and g. grandfather. What I don't know is how best to proceed. I'm in the UK so does anyone know if it is possible to have searches done of census records in Sri Lanka? My grandfather was Arthur Clement Rebera born 21/11/1871 and my g.grandfather was Lewis Lawrence Rebera born 1846 and both born in Pettah, Colombo.

Any help or advice anyone can give will be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Pete Rebera
