My grandmother Violet WHATMORE was born in Colombo in about 1890. I am well informed about her father, siblings, etc but know very little about her mother, Emily HUDSON alias DE SILVA. Emily's father is supposed to have been
an English planter called Thomas HUDSON but her mother was a local woman about whom absolutely nothing is known. Apparently Emily picked up the de Silva surname as she was brought up by a de Silva after her father returned
to England.

If anybody knows anything about a) a Thomas HUDSON who went off to Ceylon, whether he had any known issue there or not; or b) any branch of the de Silva family which has a family myth about being saddled with a couple of half-English girls to bring up,

I'd love to know!

Rebecca Kenneison.
