Dear Dale Philpott,
I have the wonderful book 'Tombstones & Monuments' which I had photocopied and conserved at considerable expense before I found out that it had been republished! On pg.444 There is the foll:1907 - July 8th,1819 - John White ' Capt. White, late half pay,3rd Ceylon Regt.Died July 8th, 1819-
He had been in the 2nd Ceylon Regt. was cashiered, but re-instated in 1817. He joined the 2nd Ceylon Regt. as 2nd Lieut, Aug.15,1805 and became Adjutant, vice Collier, Nov.20,1805 and 1st Lieut. Sept 2,1807.Could this be your Captain? It seems likely.I was told 'my' Whites were Irish but found the baptismal entry in Bethnel Green, London for my ancestor, Anthony Samuel White. I found Dutch & German ancestors instead by his marriage to Harriett Roosmalecoq!Could this be your Captain ?I hope this helps.
