My great-great grandmother, Caroline White was born in Ceylon in 1814. In her obitiary (December 31, 1914) is says: "She was the daughter of Captain White who was stationed in the island with the 3rd Ceylon Regiment. Her father was a Scotchman and at the age of four she was taken back to bonnie Scotland. Afterwards Captain White and his family were domiciled in India, and it was here she met her husband William Clark whom she married in 1831, in Scotland, when she was in her seventeenth year." This is from the Ormskirk Advertiser.

I cannot find "Captain" White's first name anywhere. Does this fit with anything you have?
