The Ondaatjees are classified as belonging to a unique community called "COLOMBO CHETTIES", who, originally migrated from North India to Ceylon via South India. They do have many mixed marriages with the Sri lanka Burgher Anglo-Sri Lankan) community.

You may wsh to look up some data on the Ondaatjee's at the Sri Lanka Genealogy Website, Family Tree Page, under Colombo Chetty families at:-

I managed to get my hands on an excellent book ttled "History of the Colombo Chetties" written by Dr. Philip Christopher Ondaatje CBE, (born in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and proceeded to UK for study at Blundell's School, and graduated from the London School of Economics, also the founder of the Ondaatjie Foundation in Canada) where there are many references to Ondaatje families
