A. H. Cleland, Coffee Planter

A. H. Cleland arrived in Ceylon in the ship URGENT in 1844 according to an article found by Hugh Karunanayake in Pages 421 to 424 of Ferguson's Ceylon Directory for 1884.

This may be the Alexander Cleland about whom I have been seeking information since he was the husband of Martha Wait, my greataunt from North Berwick, Scotland.

Does anyone have any further information on A.H. Cleland? He appears to have died in the late 1850's since his widow was back in North Berwick by the 1861 census. Family history refers to the Lucknow riots, but that is verbal hearsay.
