Charles Sydney Irons, mariner, born 1808

Charles Sydney Irons, chief mate on merchant ships. Born 1808 Shoreditch, Middlesex. Left the merchant ship "Crest" at Colombo, Ceylon [Sri Lanka] on 23 Sept. 1846. Further whereabouts not known, nor when he died. Seems not to have returned to U.K., for no ships' crew lists contain his name [among Board of Trade records in P.R.O.London] nor was he certificated as a master or mate 846+.
It is strongly suspected that he joined another ship, which may have foundered. Does anyone know what happened to him ? Or is anyone connected to him ? His parents were Joseph Irons (butcher) and Georgiana Herdson. His children were:Charles, Lydia, Elizabeth,
Joseph & Samuel.
