Just for your info you may be able to find some info in Thackers Directory, or Fergusons Directory. They are directories mainly business (but also include personal names)and would have the names of estates, their owners, and sometimes give the Superintendent (Manager) of the estate name etc etc.
As for access to these (I know that there are some held in the Society of Genealogy UK and also in a section in the British Museum where they house the India Office Library (I think I've got the terminology correct).

I believe there are some of these directories at the State Library of NSW - but as to how you would get access to them in QLD I dont know.

Also these directories were published every couple of years - so you will first need to look through one - just to get a feel for things. I too am looking for my great grandfather who was a Coffee/Tea Planter from Scotland - so would appreciate any leads you can give.

All the best in your search!
