Dear Mr. Karunanayake
I am afraid I have not replied for a while but I am trying to establish when James Blackett purchased Pe-Y-Lan, Doteloya and Meddegodda estates. I have a Ferguson of 1853 which does not record James Blackett but 1864 does show him as owner of these estates, so it is likely that they were purchased between 1854 & 1864.
I am also trying to find the date of death for James Blackett senior born in 1808 he had three wives, marrying the last one - Sophia Francina Elhart 12th. February 1849 at St. Paul's Church in the Pettah, Colombo. I suspect he would have died between 1852 to 1870.

As to your query about Douglas Russell Wilson who was born in Ceylon,he was in England when he joined up for WW1 and his father was temporarialy resident in England until 1920 so the death was probably recorded in England. However I have all his details.

By the way the British army arrived in 1796 not 1896 and John Blackett had joined the Royal Artillery drivers corps in 1804.
Regards,
Robert Wilson
