The 1854 Ceylon Almanac gives J. Blacket (note one "T") as residing at Dolosbagey, (today usually spelt as "Dolosbage"). Dolosbagey/Dolosbage was in the Central Province in 1854, but was part of the territory hived off of the CP in 1889 to create the Province of Saragamuwa.

Regardless, Dolosbage is about 20 miles south-west of Kandy. He is also indicated as the "Resident Manager" of Paroogalle Coffee Estate in the District of Udepalate. Paroogalle's ownership is given as one "A. Stephens".

Do you happen to know if your man is a relation of Walter Scott Blackett, b. 1 Feb 1867 at Pen-Y-Lan Estate in Ceylon? (If so, that's where your man would have been in 1867.) I ask, because I think they might be father and son.

I have been researching Walter Scott Blackett for some time, given his prominence in the Ceylon Mounted Rifles, between 1892 and 1930, (when he retired as a Lieut-Colonel from the Corps). I have recorded his parents as:

- Father: James Blackett, Jr (coffee planter; b. circa 1831, Ceylon; d. 1893, Aberdeen);

- Mother: Catherine (nee Scott), (b. circa 1843, Longside, Aberdeenshire).

Cheers,

Glen,
