Hello Sarah
I have a few bits of information which may help. There were two James Forbes in Ceylon both very eminent and leaders in the business world of Colombo. The first James Forbes who came out to Ceylon in 1876 founded the well known broking firm Forbes & Walker. He was married to Caroline Delmege from the family which founded the firm Delemege Forsyth still in existence in Colombo. I have a photo of JF if you need a copy. I have no information to link the 2 James Forbes.Your grandfather JF worked in the largest wharfage company that existed in Ceylon in the first half of the 20 th Century. He worked first as Manager of the Wharf Dept and later as General Manager of the Company which ceased to exist after the nationalisation of the Port of Colombo in 1958. He lived for over 10 years in house called Wykeham at 222 Bullers Road Colombo and earlier at 23 Dawson Road, Colombo.
