We family researchers/genealogy buffs have need to photocopy things from books etc. to help one another. I wanted to find out legally what the rules were.
I know that for certain books, after 100 years, you can freely copy the whole book. I wrote to the University of London library to inquire (cos i was borrowing the book 'Some Sinhalese Families' from that library...i live in N. America).
