There is also a possibility that Martha Cleland, wife of Alexander Cleland and mother of David (b. around 1848) Grace (b. around 1849) and Annie (b. around 1851) arrived in Ceylon as Mrs. Thomson. Family lore says that Martha Wait first married a Mr. Thomson, went to India and escaped at the time of the Lucknow Riots.
