Many books(rare books as well as recent books) pertaining to Sri Lankan genealogy is on Google books or scanned onto the internet so that people can read either parts of or the whole book. When you go to the webpage where the book is, you can type your family name, or a place....and see if info is availbable in that book.
Sometimes names are spelled differently eg. Udunuwara is sometimes spelled Udunuvara, or Udu Nuvara or in some other ways. The same with family names. Portuguese or Dutch records might have the name spelled differently than your family name.
Often, you have to read the actual book in order to see if the book has your family name (cos of the spellin difference).
Some very important books for genealogy:
-Jesuits in Ceylon by Fr. Perera
-Temporal and Spiritual Conquest by Queyroz
-The Grand Tour of the British Princes, the visit of Prince Albert Victor and Prince George of Wales
-Robert knox (to get clues about Kandyan kingdom, European captives, King's family etc. It might give you an idea where else to look).
-Notes on Some Sinhalese Families Paul E. Pieris
-Twentieth Century Impressions of Ceylon
-Chieftains of Ceylon by J. C. Van Sanden
-Ceylon Government Gazette (different volumes)
-The golden book of Ceylon
-Ceylon Antiquary (different volumes)
-Ceylon at the Census of 1911 (might be more volumes, more years)
Many, many other books. University libraries and Public libraries can order some of these books through inter library loan as well.
WorldCat library system has many titles that you can borrow through your library.
