Daniel John Gogerly was born in London in 1792 shortly after the return of his parents from America where they lost all their property.Daniel was appointed to the Mission Press in Colombo in 1818 and ordained in 1825.He died in 1862 and his tombstone was in the Pettah burial grounds. He was a keen
student of Buddhism and his writings were
published in 2 volumes 'Ceylon Buddhism' in 1908. He married 4 times. Had children only by his second wife Anna Joanna Sussanna Van
Lynden born 1793, widow of Jean Guillaume Du Bois de Lassosay. Anna was the daughter of Stephen Baron Van Lynden. Daniel and Anna had
two children (1) Daniel Gogerly who became headmaster of the Colombo Academy(later Royal College) and (2) Elizabeth who married William Green at Colombo on 24 September 1845.
Daniel Gogerly married his cousin Maria Leembruggen and had 7 children. Please let me
know if you want further details from there on.
