Dear Robyn
Glad to know that you found the Ceylankan
interesting. It is getting better by the issue! This is also to confirm receipt of your e-mail and to respond to your query re Mercantile Lore.
The book was published in 1940 but is very
difficult to find. I know of someone who was
able to get one after five years of searching! It is very informative on the
commercial history of Ceylon especially that of the British period. You may try the Mitchell library through your local library. Even if they may not have a copy they usually tell you where it could be referred to.
I have scattered bits of information on the
Armitage coffee estates from the early Ceylon
Almanacs, and Ceylon Calendars. If you are
interested I could extract the data and mail
them to you. I can also send you photo copies of the relevant pages from the Villiers book together with the Andy Armitage family tree. I need a few days for this however.
