Thanks for the copy of the Ceylankan. Very interesting. There is an article within
called "The Cruise of HMS Bacchante",which describes the visit of Princes Albert Victor and George to Colomob in 1882. My ggrandmother (Dora Elizabeth Armitage)attended some of the official dances and the elephant drive at Labugama kraal. These events and others were mentioned in a letter she wrote on her life after the death of her husband Charles Armitage.
I did ask previously, where might I obtain a copy of Mercantile Lore by Sir Thomas Villiers? Any ideas!
I contacted Jack Armitage a couple of weeks ago. He is not in good health at the moment and he was going to post me some family history, but this has not come about yet. I wrote to him last week reminding him and have not received a reply. I can only assume his health has let him down again. He is having serious heart by-pass problems.
May I suggest, I shall advise you immediately I receive some news of him.
He was also going to write to Beryl Bromley in England many weeks ago and hasn't been able to do that either.
All the best,
