Thank you so much for the information, it was really helpful. I am now trying to find out why Rev Norman's son, also Rev Norman changed the family name to 'de Garston' on his second marriage. Rev Norman junior married Marianne Wilson in 1847 in Bath England and had, to my knowledge, 5 children by her, Arthur, Louisa, Norman Patrick and William, later Sir William. Presumably after Marianne's death, the Rev Norman married Mary Lockley in 1864, changed the family name to de Garston and had two children, Edith who died young at 10 years of age and then Edward Mervyn de Garston born in 1869. Edward was born in Normandy, France and joined the Diplomatic Service, where he served as Consul in Sicily, Italy and South America. Edward was a founder member and President of Palermo Football Club, Sicily.
If you have any other information on the Garstin's time in Sri Lanka, I would be most interested.
Thank you again, and kind regards
Lisa de Garston
